NPP appeals to Garo militant outfits to desist from violence

TURA: The West Garo Hills District Unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) has appealed to all militant groups in Garo Hills to go about demanding for a separate Garoland State in a democratic way.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday the NPP was of the view that rampant kidnapping, extortion and killing of fellowmen was not the only way to achieve the goal. “We are proud that your ultimate goal is for the good cause of Garos and Garoland. We do not wish to condemn your objective. But the rampant kidnapping, extortion and killing of your fellowmen for whom you are working is not the only way to achieve your goal,” it asserted.

Further, it said that the time had come for all to introspect plans and objectives and to come out for visualizing and to put collective efforts in a democratic way which was acceptable by the people at large.

Bengalee association concern over Garo Hills killings

The Bengalee Association, Tura has expressed grave concern over the recent custodial deaths as well as the random killings by militants.

“We are dismayed over the death of helpless Auto Drivers at the hands of unknown miscreants and the endless cycle of violence in Garo Hills and are appealing to right thinking citizens of Garo Hills to work together for lasting peace in this trouble torn region,” it said in a statement.
