New Delhi: The NPP supremo Purno A Sangma has demanded revival of Jogighopa (Panchratna) -Silchar mega railway line covering most parts of Meghalaya.

Conceived long ago, the multi-crore rupees 437 km project would pass through Tikirkiila-Selsella-Zikzak-Bagmara-Ranikor-Shella-Dawki all in Garo Hills of Meghalaya. “I shall meet the new Railway Minster to press for the demand,” he told reporters on Wednesday.

Survey has been already done for the Rs.18180.57 crore mega project but for some reason it was shelved by the Railway Board, Sangma said.

He also demanded for two new lines – one from Jowai to Lokro for which the survey is in progress and the other one from Shillong to Chandranathpur for which survey was sanctioned in 2011-12.

The former Speaker demanded for expeditious completion of the bridge from Phulbari to Dhubri which will be the longest bridges in the country.

The bridge will be part of a Rs 1763.27 crore project which will include construction linking Phulbari in Meghalaya with Srirampur from the NH-27 via Dhubri in Assam. Assam will have 40 km -long highway and Meghalaya will 361 km-long highway under this project.
