SHILLONG: The Supreme Court will again hear on July 7 the special leave petition related to providing interim relief to the teachers whose services were terminated by the Education Department after the education scam came to light.
During the April 21 hearing of the plea by five tainted petitioners whose services were terminated due to the manipulation in their marks, the Supreme Court in its order had made the formation of High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) which probed the education scam as non-functional by staying the order of the Division bench of the Gauhati High Court which facilitated the formation of HLSC.
The order of the apex court brought interim relief to as many as 40 petitioners in East Khasi Hills.
However, as per the notice issued by the Supreme Court to the State Government, state education department and also to some candidates who were eligible, a hearing was fixed on July 7 to get their views, objections to the interim order.
The notice said that the concerned parties can challenge the interim order of the Court on July 7.
A legal expert pointed out that the irony is that it was the five tainted teachers who sought the intervention of the Court and they were appointed as teachers after adding more marks to their score sheets.
Now with the State Government and the affected genuine job applicants who were not appointed though they were eligible are poised to make their representation in the Supreme Court, the issue may take a new turn.
