CS pays farewell visit to West Khasi Hills

NONGSTOIN: Chief Secretary WMS Pariat paid a farewell visit to Nongstoin on Friday and held meetings with  the district head on the development of the district.
Pariat’s visit to Nongstoin was an official last visit to the West Khasi Hills district headquarters before his retirement on June 30. He was accompanied by his wife and children.
A grand function to bid farewell to the Chief Secretary was organized at TRYSEM Hall, DCs Office, chaired by S. Warjri, EAC.
The function was attended by West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S. Kharlyngdoh, Superintendent of Police S. Nongtnger, ADCs J.P. Lakiang and P.D. Sangma, officers from various department, staff of DC’s office and various headmen.
PHE Executive Engineer A. Lyngkhoi express happiness at the guidance, help and contribution provided to the Department by the Chief Secretary, especially with his involvement in speeding up the Nongstoin Urban Water Supply Scheme, which is nearing completion. He also thanked pariat for his commitments that he had fulfilled towards the Department.
Superintendent of Police S. Nongtnger lauded the untiring service rendered by the Chief Secretary to the Police Department in the district.
Nongtnger recalled that during Pariat’s tenure, the Police department was able to strengthen the buildings of the Police Outposts. The Chief Secretary helped in the upgradation of the Shallang Police Station, providing weapons to counter militants in the district, providing good vehicles to the police discharge their duties.
The Deputy Commissioner said that during his tenure as Chief Secretary, Pariat had made tremendous contributions to West Khasi Hills and also helped in creating a spirit of unity and cooperation among the district officers.
Addressing the gathering, Pariat lauded the efforts of the Deputy Commissioner for the grand function and stated that he admired the district and had chosen to visit the district first of all before his retirement.
He also recalled that in 1979 he was an SDO of Mairang and in 1983 he was the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills.
Admitting that West Khasi Hills was lacking behind in all kinds of development, Pariat urged all the officers of the district to work together since only team work could ensure change.
Pariat told the gathering that during his tenure as Deputy Commissioner in Nongstoin, there was no English medium school there, but due to the team work and understanding between the officers of the district, they have been able to set up the Nongstoin Public School to cater to the educational needs of the students in West Khasi Hills.
Pariat expressed hope that the officers of West Khasi Hills will work hard and complete their duties with care to ensure a greater and better change in the district.
