SHILLONG: St Anthony’s College constituted the first ever St. Anthony’s College Model United Nations Club on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Barkos Warjri observed that the United Nations is an organisation which covers lot of areas and spheres of lives. “United Nations allows different sections of people to work together,” Warjri informed adding, “It is a platform were common minds work together for the betterment of the society and the world.”
Pointing to the recent killing of a woman in front of her husband and children and the abduction of a bank official in Garo Hills he said, “Such things are happening all round the globe and as role models, students can work for peace and bring a change,” he said.
The Model United Nations was an initiative of two young minds Irene Alexandria Phanbuh and Pranami Goswami both students of the college. MUN involves in substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
