SHILLONG: Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) in collaboration with Lelangki events will organise the fifth edition of the ‘Meghalaya Icon 2014’.
“Before the main event, there will seven preliminary rounds which will held across the State,” event manager Andreas War told news here on Friday.
While informing that a total number of four bands will be selected to perform in the main event, he said that one band each from the remaining six preliminary which would be held across the State would get the opportunity to perform in the main event.
“Each band has been given counseling on the subject and the winner will be selected as the brand ambassador who in turn will spread the message amongst the youths of the state,” War said.
He also informed that the competition at the grand finale on August 9 will be divided into two parts with the first half having an interactive session between band members and officers of MACS followed by performances.
“Marks from both the sessions will be tallied and the band with maximum marks will be crowned the winner,” War informed.
War also revealed that ‘Meghalaya Icon’ has helped in creating much awareness especially amongst the youths. “There is a drastic improvement especially in the rural areas people communicate freely and they are now aware of HIV and AIDS,” War stated.
War added that there will be auditions in seven different parts of the state with Tura auditions on July 12, Nongpoh July 16, Mairang July 19, Jowai July 25, Amlarem July 26, Sohra August 2 and Shillong on August 8. EOM
Over the years, Meghalaya Icon has become one of the most eagerly awaited events in the state and what makes it unique is participants have to visit an Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre (ICTC) to avail counseling on HIV and AIDS before they can compete.
