JOWAI: After waiting for years for a blood bank in Jaintia Hills and several rounds of demands and protests by various pressure groups particularly the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), the State Health Department has finally sanctioned a full-fledged blood bank in Jaintia Hills.

“We are happy and we are very thankful to Health Minister AL Hek and the State Government for the blood bank,” JSU president Rikut N Parien said adding that the blood bank will immensely benefit the people of Jaintia Hills during times of medical emergencies, and was the need of the hour.

The blood bank in Jowai was set up after the Health department obtained the mandatory license from the Drugs and Cosmetics Department of the Central government recently.
