Road Accidents in Meghalaya

On July 6 at about 7.29pm, the driver of a tractor sustained injuries when the vehicle which was heading towards Jowai from Amlarem fell into a drain on the side of the road at Mustem under Thadlaskein Block, West Jaintia Hills. The victim, Mon Kyndait (31/m) was later shifted to Jowai Civil Hospital.

On July 6 at 2.54pm, a jeep drove off the road and fell into a gorge at Wah Lakhaw under Mairang Block, West Khasi Hills. The driver of the vehicle, Beststar Sawkmie (39/m) was shifted to Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital, Mairang.

On July 6 at 12.55pm, two truck drivers identified as Mukul Shek(35/m) and Jugal Jamali(50/m) sustained injuries when their respective vehicles collided head on at Puriang under Mawryngkneng Block, East Khasi Hills. The injured, Jamali and Shek, were shifted to Mawryngkneng PHC and Civil Hospital Shillong, respectively.

On July 6 at 1pm, the pillion rider in a scooter was killed while the rider sustained injuries, when the two-wheeler collided with a local taxi at Demsieniong, Shillong. The rider, one Richelbert Rumnong (20/m) was shifted to Civil Hospital Shillong.

A driver of an auto-rickshaw sustained injuries when the vehicle overturned after the driver lost control in a sharp turn at Balalgre under Betasingh Block, South West Garo Hills, on July 6 at 10:25am.The victim, Tengkan D Marak (25/m) was shifted to Civil Hospital Tura.

On July 6 at 12.22am, a passenger vehicle collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction at Lad Sharai under Umsning Block, Ri Bhoi. The passengers in the vehicle, Tipi Bilong (40/m) and Kishanlal Sinha (35/m), sustained minor injuries and were administered first aid on the scene, while the driver of the vehicle, Nilojal Dutta (31/m) had to be shifted to Umsning CHC and then to Civil Hospital Shillong.

(In all the incidents reported above, the 108 Emergency Service Ambulance assisted in shifting the victims to the hospital.)
