Editor,
People of Meghalaya must be the most unfortunate citizens in the entire country. We are afflicted with the plague of Political Corruption of the highest degree. In our State, public representatives NEVER represent the common man. They represent only themselves. The case of Vincent Pala is just another disgusting example of how democracy works in Meghalaya. The man has shamelessly moved two bills in Lok Sabha aimed at serving his own interests and the interests of the rich mining mafia. He has the whole-hearted support of the entire political fraternity since most politicians including the Chief Minister are organs of the coal mafia. He is seeking to subvert the National Green Tribunal’s order banning mining of coal by – a) invoking the Sixth Schedule and b) placing the coal belt firmly in the hands of the State Government and the Autonomous District councils.
Mukul Sangma in his second term as Chief Minister has truly lost it. He is now held up as the epitome of corruption and dynastic politics. Congress party’s humiliation in 2014 elections has not taught them anything. The Congress craves more humiliation, it seems. By encouraging Mukul Sangma and Vincent Pala to shamelessly exploit people and environment to enrich themselves has pulled Congress down to a new low. Tribals are now exploited by their own kind in the name of tribalism, thanks to the Congress Party.

A foundational problem
Editor,
The church cannot fix society’s problems when the foundation is out of place. As we read in the Bible, “The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do ? ” ( Psalms 11:3). No matter how much the church works at correcting social ills, if the foundation that God laid for the family is not in place, even the work of the righteous will not be successful. The devil does not care as much if the church is filled women and children, because as long as men do not come back to their heavenly Father, then the women and their children are fatherless. Fatherhood is the foundation of the family, the church and culture.
If societies and nations have problems with militancy, extortion, prostitution, drugs, unwed mothers, teenage pregnancy, corruption and violence, then they must go back to the foundation in order to solve these problems. If they have a national problem, then they must go back in to the communities to find the problem. Community problems are rooted in the families that make up each community. When we check to see what the families’ problems are we must look at marriages. When we examine the condition of our marriages, we discover that husbands and wives are divorced, mothers have been abandoned, and men are not sustaining their families.
What does all this boil down to? Brothers, we are at the root of the problem affecting the nations ! The foundational source has a problem; men are not being the fathers God created them to be. The church cannot fix society’s problems when the foundation is out of place.
