Youth exchange programme begins in city

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Information and Public Relations Minister A.L. Hek on Monday inaugurated a seven-day Meghalaya Youth Exchange Camp 2014 at the Bharat Scouts & Guides headquarters in the city.

Speaking at the function, Hek emphasized on the responsibility and role of the youth in bringing about a sense of respect, trust and understanding among the different tribes and communities in the State.

He called upon the youths to be role models and become assets to their family, village, society and the country as a whole. About 120 youths from all the districts of the State are participating in the camp which is being organized to allow the youths to share ideas and get acquainted with the different cultures of various tribes of the State in order to foster mutual understanding and brotherhood amongst them.

Earlier, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, F.M. Doph, mentioned that the programme was designed by the department in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan on the line of the vision of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma who stresses on youth empowerment for a brighter future for Meghalaya.
