Jyrwa, Joe appear before police

SHILLONG: A day after issuing non-bailable warrants against FKJGP president Joe Marwein and KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa, the Special Court headed by R Rymbai on Tuesday issued the same against KSU president Daniel Khyriem and HNYF chairman GH Kharshanlor after they failed to appear during the hearings on the damage suit filed by the Meghalaya government against them for agitations demanding the implementation of ILP.

Reacting to the move , pro-ILP pressure groups expressed their disappointment over the failure of the Government to respect its assurance of withdrawing all the pending cases against them.

While taking to newsmen after appearing before the officer-in-charge of Lumdiengjri police station on Tuesday, KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa said that they were surprised that a non-bailable warrant was issued against them despite an understanding with the government. “We expected the State Government to remain true to its commitment of withdrawing all cases against the NGOs as assured by the Chief Minister ,” Jyrwa said FKJGP president Joe Marwein said that any decision related to the arrest warrants will be taken collectively by various organizations that are part of the demand for introduction of the ILP.

East Khasi Hill SP M Kharkrang said that the leaders would have to be produced before the court on dates fixed by it.

Altogether 86 cases were registered against pressure groups during the four month long agitation demanding introduction of the ILP. 73 of the cases were charge sheeted.
