TURA: The executive committee meeting of the Nongalbibra Joint Action Committee, South Garo Hills was held recently at Rongsa Awe Mahari Hall under the Chairmanship of S R Marak to discuss on the effects on lives of coal miners, traders and other related businessmen of the region.

During the meeting the Chairman spoke briefly on the actions being taken by the State Coordination Committee of Coal Owners, Miners and Dealers’ Forum (SCCCOMF) of Meghalaya as well as actions to be taken in the future.

The meeting saw many expressing their anguish and concern on the lack of proactiveness on the part of the state government with some even accusing it of being responsible for the NGT ban.

They were of the view that the government should have played a proactive role to force the NGT to lift the ban.

It was also decided during the meeting to hold a public rally on July 18 to discuss and decide the future course of action if the ban is prolonged where the leaders of the SCCCOMF would be addressed.

The meeting also decided to invite all MLAs and MDCs of Garo Hills irrespective of their party affiliation to attend the rally.
