District badminton tourney inaugurated in Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN: The District Open cum Inter School Badminton Tournament 2014 was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Executive Engineer, PHE Nongstoin Division, A Lyngkhoi here.

The inaugural function was attended by the West Khasi Hills District Sport Officer PB War Nongbri, West Khasi Hills District Badminton Association (WKHDBA) vice-president DL Marwein, tournament committee chairman Dr LL Mawsor and chief referee and national umpire S Lyngdoh.

Altogether there are 78 participants registered for the tournament, including 37 school students (boys and girls) in the sub-junior U-15 and U-17 divisions and 41 participants in the open U-15, U-19 singles and doubles in men’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

As the chief guest at the function, Lyngkhoi express his appreciation towards the WKHDBA for organising such a tournament and inspiring all the participants to do well. He added that they should never lose the spirit of competition.

Lyngkhoi further said that this is an opportunity for them to expose their talent and to build themselves for the future.
