SHILLONG: The 13 pro-ILP pressure groups have decided to seek an appointment with the State Government officials to seek clarification on the constitution of two committees by the State government on the issue of illegal influx of outsiders to the State.
“We would be writing a letter to the State Government seeking an appointment within this week,” KSU president Daniel Khyriem told newsmen here on Tuesday.
He said that the pro-ILP pressure groups required more clarity on the terms of references of the two committees constituted by Government.
“We would also like to know the steps taken by Government on the mechanism suggested by us,” Khyriem said.
When asked if they would appeal against the arrest warrant issued by the Special Court to some of the top leaders, HNYF general secretary Sadon K Blah said, “We are ready to be arrested instead of making an appeal against the arrest warrant.”
He recalled that during the course of their meeting with the Government, they were assured that all the cases which were framed against the members of the pressure groups would be withdrawn.
“But sadly the Government has not kept its word. We would leave it to the wisdom of the Government to decide on the pending cases which were framed against us,” Blah said.
When asked if they would demand for scrapping of the special court, he said that he did not think it would wise to demand scrapping of the special court. “But it would be interesting to see in what manner the Government uses the special court. We hope that the Government does not misuse the special court,” Blah said.
When questioned if the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) would be welcomed to join the 13 pressure groups in this movement, the HNYF general secretary said, “We have reached this far in our struggle. I do not foresee that the HYC would agree to our demand”.
