One lynched as mob attacks extortionists

TURA: An irate mob attacked a gang of extortionists in North Garo Hills lynching one , while another has been admitted to a hospital with serious injuries on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident took place at around 4:30 am when the public of Bansi Apal village, near Resubelpara, caught two members of a gang who had come to extort money. A third member of the group who possessed a pistol reportedly managed to escape.

The two criminals were severely beaten leading to the death of one while the other was rushed to Resubelpara civil hospital in a serious condition. The gang is believed to be involved in a series of kidnapping cases for ransom.

Dalu cops intercept ASAK money transaction: Police from Barengapara border town in West Garo Hills successfully thwarted an attempt by ASAK militants to extort from petty traders by intercepting a shipment of cash bound for the militant group on Tuesday afternoon.

The ASAK outfit had demanded Rs 2 lakh from a small time trader of Barengapara and the money was supposed to be handed over at Machangpani village on Tuesday afternoon.

However, the news of the possible drop was intercepted by police intelligence and the officer-in-charge of Barengapara police station rushed to the site and spotted the three ASAK militants who had come to collect the money in the afternoon. Seeing the police, the militants panicked opening fire before fleeing leaving behind a .32 pistol with two live ammo. Rs two lakh was recovered from the trader who has since been taken into custody by police.
