TURA: In order to provide better health care to the people in the surrounding areas of Williamnagar, the National Rural Health Mission in collaboration with the District Medical & Health Officer, East Garo Hills, launched an Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight at Williamnagar Civil Hospital on August 5. Deborah Ch. Marak, Minister for Social Welfare, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Marak said that the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight had been launched nationwide earlier to reduce the child mortality due to Diarrhoea. This campaign would be carried out for two weeks and would cover fifty schools in East Garo Hills District, she informed.
Expressing her pleasure at having been associated with the programme, she said that this campaign would benefit the general populace of the district and create health awareness among the people of the areas besides providing medicines.
She highlighted the drawback of the area as far as health is concerned and stated that such campaign would help the people and give them an opportunity to access and acquire healthy way of living.
Stating that the people of Garo Hills were prone to diseases like malaria and diarrhoea due to extreme weather conditions, she urged the gathering to understand basic personal health hygiene, which will help in eradicating and getting rid of various diseases.
