AMPATI: The two-week Summer Football Coaching Camp which is being organized by the District Sports Promotion Society, South West Garo Hills, got underway here at Ampati Playground on Tuesday afternoon.
The coaching camp is primarily organized for school students of the district in the age group of 14 to 16 years and is monitored by Mongera M. Marak and Gamcheng Marak, both football coaches from Netaji Subash National Institute of Sports, Patiala.
The Coaching Camp was inaugurated on Tuesday afternoon by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ampati, PK Boro in the presence of District Sports Officer J.P. Marak, sports officials and several other from the district. In his brief inaugural address, Boro lamented that although there is lots of talented players in Garo Hills, none have been able to play in the State or National levels.
“The Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma therefore came up with this flagship programme – District Sports Promotion Society – to promote sporting talents among the youth. He urged upon the students to maintain discipline during camp and learn the techniques of the game.
Earlier, District Sports Officer & Secretary, District Sports Promotion Society, J P Marak while highlighting the objectives of the camp, informed that through this camp they would select a few good players and provide them with enhanced guidance and coaching to help them pursue a career in football. He further urged the participants to be regular and strictly follow the rules during the coaching period. The coaching camp will conclude on August 14.
