First batch of training under UNRC inaugurated at Betasing Block
AMPATI: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Monday said that in trying to promote entrepreneurs in the state the government has come up with the Centre for Promotion of Entrepreneurship & Incubation Centres, through which the government would accord priority to small entrepreneurs and their sustainability by providing them ‘incubation centres’ in different marketing complexes which are coming up in the region.
“There are many programmes of the government and a number of business opportunities would emerge out these programmes,” he said and announced the introduction of the Preferential Purchase Policy to encourage entrepreneurs in the State, wherein the government would give preference to the local entrepreneurs by purchasing their products even if there are other giant players in the industry.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the vocational trainings for apparel making & fashion technology and masonry under the United Nations Resource Centre (UNRC) as well as the workshop and classrooms for the trainees at Betasing, South West Garo Hills.
This is the first batch of the UNRC to be given training in the entire country and the selection letters to the trainees in both the trades were distributed on the occasion by the Chief Minister along with the Regional Director, UNRC, Guwahati, Ashwini Sarma and Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh.
Delivering the inaugural address, Sangma said that the trainees, who would ultimately become entrepreneurs, would be given the required support.
He also suggested that those undergoing masonry training could take up jobs as demonstrators, builders, contractors and so on, saying that the sky is the limit as far as learning is concerned and urged upon the trainees to be sincere and take these trainings to the best of their advantage, while at the same time assuring them that they would be given the platform for their business ventures.
Stressing on the need to create conducive atmosphere to ensure that the fruits of development reach every nook and corner of the State, he said: “We are disturbed by the designs of the enemies of the State who are trying to dislocate the overall economic development process in the region” and called upon the people to take resolution in their respective villages not to allow militants to use their lands for their disruptive acts.
He also slammed the militants for using the garb of fighting for separate state for their criminal activities. “Those who work for their state do not need guns and do not need to extort, kidnap or kill” he asserted.
Later, the Chief Minister inspected the classrooms and equipments for the training and also interacted with the trainees.
