SHILLONG: The ANVC-B has urged the Garo Hills based MLAs to stress on the need for official formulation of ‘suspension of operation’ against the outfit and finalise camps for its cadres before the legislators meet on August 26.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, ANVC-B political secretary Doang Shira said that militants in Garo Hills are ready to come forward and join the mainstream but without a positive move from the elected representatives, the Government will only adopt strategies that will deteriorate the situation in Garo Hills.
“We took initiatives in the past to welcome rebels from other organisations to join the mainstream instead of forming new groups. There was positive response but with unfortunate events that followed many have been led astray,” he said adding that the outfit still wants to bring everyone onboard but would not be able to do so without official ‘suspension of operation’.
He said that even Champion Sangma hinted at his willingness to join the Peace-pact under an agreement and it is right time for the leaders to decide on whether to end the menace by taking a common stand or allow Garo Hills to sink into oblivion.
