Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Opposition Leader Tamiyo Taga has urged the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to support the state for effective development of its road network.
A BJP delegation led by Taga called on Union MoRTH Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday and pleaded him to clear and sanction all the remaining road projects under PM’s Package in Arunachal Pradesh and accordingly award them for early implementation, a party communique informed here today.
Pointing out that with the unflinching backing of the Centre, the land-locked state has made rapid strides in its social-economic development, Taga said that the strategic state sharing border with four countries has been gradually becoming sensitive from the security point of view.
“Eleven out of the 19 packages under Arunachal Package of Roads and Highways have been awarded and remaining eight packages are yet to be awarded.
The last package awarded was sanctioned in March, 2012 and thereafter there has been no further sanction from the ministry,” Taga said in the memorandum submitted to Gadkari.
“The projects which are lingering in the ground for want of sanction are intermittently located within the awarded projects, the works of which are in progress.
Thus non-sanction of these road projects has hampered the integrated and synchronous development of the National Highways in Arunachal Pradesh,” the memorandum said.
Taga also urged the minister for approving the East-West Industrial Highway adjacent to Arunachal-Assam boundary.
“The double lane highway starting from Bhairab Kund located near Arunachal-Assam-Bhutan border to Ruksin near Pasighat and covering places like Bhalukpong, Seijosa, Digalmukh, Balijan, Nagarlagun, Kimin, Subansiri River, Likabali, Dipa, Nari with an approximate length of 431 km could bring about a drastic change in the socio-economic scenario of people residing in the foothill region of Arunachal Pradesh as well as Assam,” he said.
