Shillong: Meghalaya Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Zenith M Sangma felicitated Achievers in sports in the National and Regional Tournament on Friday at J N Sports Complex, Polo Ground, Shillong. The programme was organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Meghalaya Shillong.

Zenith Sangma congratulated the young achievers for bringing laurels to the state in various disciplines.

He encouraged them to utilize their talents with determination and self discipline.

Sangma further said that with their ability they should go beyond the boundaries of the country and ceaseless effort and hard work is needed for achieving this desired goal.

He reminded that the day is being celebrated as National Sports Day in India which marks the birth anniversary of hockey wizard, Major Dhyan Chand and therefore cash rewards presented symbolised a token of acknowledgement by the state government to the players.

”Inspite of the fact that the youth of the state are doing excellent in their respective disciplines,” Sangma lamented, ” there are various constraints and inadequate infrastructure which is detrimental to the sport persons’ future.

For this reason the State Government is creating more infrastructures to support sport persons as well as clubs so that they can work independently, he added.

Altogether 56 persons were felicitated in the discipline of Athletics, Archery, Kick Boxing and Karate. The achievers were rewarded cash prize of Rs. 7500 (gold medal winners), Rs. 5000 (silver medal winners) and Rs. 3000 (bronze medal winners).
