‘Special school’ celebrates 16th foundation day

SHILLONG: Asha School, Happy Valley, Shillong, a special school catering to the needs of specially-abled children celebrated its 16th Foundation Day with a cultural extravaganza on Wednesday.

Pratibha S Nawathe, Regional President, AWWA 101 Area, who was the chief guest for the function, complimented the Principal and staff under whose guidance the special children put up a spectacular show.

She complimented the School Management Committee for having provided the differently-abled children with the best of facilities and making the Asha School, Shillong as one of the best managed Special Schools in the North eastern region.

The parents of all the children, teachers and students of other schools were also present for the function.

The School has been in existence since August 31, 1998. The School is a project undertaken by Army Wives’ Welfares’ Association and has been making a difference in the lives of the many families with children having different abilities.

The School is being administered under the aegis of Headquarters 101 Area by 58 Gorkha Training Centre.

The School is registered with the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and is not only catering to needs of Armed Forces personnel but also has 12 special children from the local areas on its rolls.
