We have full confidence in AICC president, says Salseng

SHILLONG: A day after the CLP meeting, which reportedly did not discuss the issue of change of leadership, the former Chief Minister SC Marak has said that the aggrieved legislators will wait for the final decision from AICC

president Sonia Gandhi.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, Marak said, “We stand by our decision and the discussions which we had with the Congress chief in Delhi. She (Sonia Gandhi) asked us to wait and we are ready to wait as she said that the decision will take some time”.

Asked about the comments of AICC General Secretary in charge Meghalaya Luizinho Faleiro that the demand for change of leadership is a figment of imagination, Marak said, “I don’t want to make any comment on this. All I can say is that our delegation had talked to the Congress president during our visit, and she promised that the grievances will be addressed and we are hopeful of a positive outcome”.

To a query on whether any senior Congress leader is scheduled to visit Shillong, Marak said that such a requirement is not necessary since Congress chief whom they trust will take a final call and “we will abide by whatever decision she takes”.

According to Marak, Sonia had assured the delegation which met her in Delhi that AICC would take the decision at an appropriate time and there is no hurry . “We don’t expect immediate action, we will wait. But we are expecting a decision,” Marak said.

Faleiro on Friday said that the demand for removal of Sangma would be decided by Congress president.

“I am not the authority. I am here today because the AICC president wanted. The Congress president is the supreme leader and she takes the final decision,” the former Goa Chief Minister told reporters after attending a meeting of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee here.
