46 confirmed cases of JE in M’laya

SHILLONG: Forty-six confirmed cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) have been reported in Meghalaya till date with only a single casualty reported in South West Garo Hills District.

Joint Director of Health Services in charge of Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP), Dr. R.O. Budnah, informed that 45 positive cases were reported last month while only case has been confirmed this month.

Out of the 46 cases, 11 have been reported in East Khasi Hills, 8 in West Khasi Hills, 7 in Jaintia Hills, 18 in Ri Bhoi while one case each has been reported in West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills, he informed, adding that a single case of a death of a woman was reported from South West Garo Hills.

He asserted that the department has taken several actions to contain the disease.
