SHILLONG: Buoyed by the tremendous response to the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) launched in April last year, the State Government is now contemplating to start the enrollment for the second phase of the health scheme from January, 2015.

Informing this to The Shillong Times, Larry Rymbai, State Manager of MHIS, said that there will be no breakup in the Policy and it would follow several stages of disease like out-patient care, critical care and diagnostic care.

The second phase of MHIS has been delayed after some people filed litigation over the tendering process of the scheme.

Larry informed that the beneficiaries would now get insurance cover of upto Rs.2 lakh, as compared to the previous upper ceiling of Rs.1.60 lakh, while adding that there will be more than 2500 medical packages included in the second phase.

In the first edition, 4.6 lakh households in the State were covered under the scheme. The Government is now planning to include another 2.4 lakh households in the State under phase two, taking the total number of beneficiaries to seven lakh.

Meanwhile, as per the data provided by MHIS, a total of 24,053 persons including 16512 females and 7541 males have availed the health insurance scheme and an amount of Rs. 10,87,14,894 has been claimed as insurance till July 31.

293 people availed treatment outside the State using MHIS and claims of Rs.46.82 lakh have been realized.
