SHILLONG: The National Green Tribunal (NGP) ban on mining and transportation of coal from the state has led to illegal movement of the mineral from the State.
Police statistics reveal that 52 cases of violation of the NGT order have been recorded and 70 trucks have been seized.
While 24 trucks are still in police custody, 46 trucks have been released.
As per police statistics till August this year, four cases of NGT violation was reported in East Khasi Hills and four trucks were seized.
A whopping 26 cases of NGT order violation was reported in West Khasi Hills and 31 trucks were seized out of which 10 trucks are in police custody while 21 trucks have been released. One case was also reported in South West Khasi Hills and three trucks were seized and all three trucks have been released.
In West Jaintia Hills, 4 cases were registered in which 9 trucks were seized. All the nine trucks are still in the custody of police
In East Jaintia Hills where most of the coal mining takes place, 11 cases were registered and 14 trucks were seized and all 14 trucks have been released.
In Ri Bhoi district, 6 cases of NGT order was reported in which 9 trucks were seized and while 3 trucks are still in the custody of police, 6 trucks have been released.
No cases of NGT order violation was reported in West Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.
