SHILLONG: Mawlai MDC Process T Sawkmie on Monday urged the HNLC to call off their 24-hour bandh in view of the upcoming Durga Puja celebration.

“I strong feel that this is not the appropriate time to call such bandh. We have to learn to respect the religious sentiments of the people,” Sawkmie said in a statement on Monday.

“The people should be given an opportunity to celebrate the Durga Puja festival freely,” Sawkmie said.

He also feared that the bandh call might also affect the fate of the proposed peace dialogue.
