Excise raid in city

The Excise Staff of East Khasi Hills detected 51 cases in August with a seizure of 687.250 litres of liquor and 793.450 litres of IMFL. 48 persons were arrested.

Id prayers

The Idd Ul Azha congregational prayer will be held in different mosques and eid gahs of the State on October 6. The prayers will be held at Lad Rymbai mosque, Dawki mosque, Nongpoh mosque, Addah mosque and Byrnihat mosque at 9 am and at Laban Eid Gah field at 9.30 am.

Clean Indian Campaign

The Indo Tibetan Border Police Force, North East Frontier Headquarter, will organize the Clean India Campaign at Civil Hospital, Anjalee petrol pump and ITBP camp surroundings on October 2.

Durga Puja greetings

The Shillong Cantonment Board Employees’ Union has extended its heartiest greetings to all the members of the Union on the occasion of Durga puja and Dussehra.

The Lok Janshakti Party has extended its heartiest wishes to the people of the State on the occasion of Durga Puja and Dussehra.

ATM inaugurated

As part of welfare measure for police personnel, an SBI ATM Counter was inaugurated on Wednesday by M. Kharkrang, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, at the Shillong Police Reserve Complex in presence of SBI officials and police officials.

Women’s body expresses gratitude

The Meghalaya United Women’s Welfare Organization expressed gratitude to the HNLC for exempting the Durga Puja celebrations from the purview of the 24-hour bandh called by the outfit from October 1. The organization also thanked Home Minister Roshan Warjri, the UDP and other NGOs for appealing to the HNLC to call off the bandh in view of the festivities. The MUWWO also extended its best wishes to the people of the State on the occasion of Durga Puja.

Ambulance donated in Umsning

Parliamentary Secretary Celestine Lyngdoh released an ambulance at Umsaitsning in Umsning which was handed over to the Central Ri Bhoi Development & Sport Promoting Association, in the presence of Vice Chairman, Meghalaya State Commission for Resource Mobilization, MG Kharshanlor and CRBDSPA president Jinu Kharbuki. The ambulance was jointly sponsored by Rajya Sabha member Wansuk Syiem and Celestine Lyngdoh.

Teachers’ meet

The Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teacher Association will hold its state-level Executive Committee on Oct 10 at residence of general secretary Kenneth Shadap at Professor Colony, Kharmalki, Malki, at and around 10 am to have a thorough discussion on the State conference to be organized at Shillong later this year.

Blood donation camp organised

On the occasion of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on Wednesday, the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society in collaboration with Meghalaya State Blood Transfusion Council and all licensed blood banks of Meghalaya organised a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp at Meghalaya State Library premises. A total of 61 donors including several police personnel from North Eastern Police Academy voluntarily donated blood at the camp.

Special interactive programme

The Office of the District Public Relations Officer, Nongstoin, organized a one-day Special Interactive Programme at Laitkseh village, about 40 km from the Nongstoin on Sept 30. The occasion witnessed a sizable turnout of local villagers, school children and representatives from the surrounding 12 villages. Several programmes were organised on the occasion.

NSS special camp

The National Service Scheme (NSS), St. Edmund’s College, inaugurated a special camp at Mawkasiang in a grand manner. The camp was inaugurated by Nongthymmai legislator Jemino Mawthoh, a former programme coordinator of NSS. The programme included an orientation by Gideon Kharkongor, programme officer of NSS, St. Edmund’s College, which was followed by cultural programmes from the volunteers and the children of the village. An awareness programme was also held, besides construction of composting unit and kitchen garden at St. Francis School, cleaning drive as part of Clean India Campaign, street play, sports and games, painting and drawing competition, singing and dancing competition.

AR donates relief materials

During the recent floods in Meghalaya, Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles, located at Shillong, pro-actively undertook the task of providing essential relief material to include blankets, clothing and shoes which were voluntarily donated by its personnel. An Assam Rifles column with relief materials reached Tura on Sept 28 and distributed over 200 packets of food, clothing and over 400 blankets to the locals in the relief camps at Phulbari and Chibinang.
