SHILLONG:The youngest team in the Hero ISL happens to also be the only team in the league to flaunt an English rock anthem. Pepsi MTV Indies, an indie music and sub-culture channel showcased the official team anthem of the North East United FC on the 2nd of October 2014. It is also the first sports anthem to be showcased by the channel.

The track features twelve of the most loved artists from the musically gifted region of North East India. The twelve artists being Angaraag Mahanta (Papon), Zubeen Garg, Joi Barua, Lou Majaw, Rudy Wallang & Tipriti ‘Tips’ Kharbhangar, Alobo Naga, Tetseo Sisters, Guru Rewben Mashangva, Boomerang, Girish and the Chronicles, The Vinyl Records and BK – Borkung Hrangkhawl. The track is composed and produced by Pap On, a much loved Assamese Rockstar and co produced by Kalyan Baruah.

Ronnie Lahiri, creative genius behind this anthem shares his thoughts “The track is titled ‘We are the 8’ to echo the overall philosophy of our team which is unity. Our mission from the start has been to unite the 8 states of North East India by bringing together football and music.”The video of the track sees a beautiful amalgamation of all the artists recording the track.

The fans of the NEUFC now have a tune to sing whist supporting their favourite team. NEUFC’s management hopes that this venture will grow to be a memorable part of the overall team’s journey for this inaugural Hero ISL season.
