SHILLONG: Participants with 20 vehicles have registered to take part in the  Wolymshire 4×4 off road challenge, a skill based motor sports event, to be held  on October 11, at Kyrdemkulai, 8 Kilo, Ri Bhoi for the first time in the state.
In a statement issued here on Monday, the organizers said that more tentative participants are sending queries as the last date for accepting entries is October 9 and the registration fee is 3500.  As a pre- event fixture, a daylong event was conducted to register participants’ vehicles on October 4 at Madan Dong Veronica lane Laitumkhrah Main Road .
4 X 4 Off Roading’ is a motor sporting event involving vehicles with 4 wheel drive transmission. These vehicles are meant to drive through different terrains maneuvering obstacles in the form of bad roads.
The organizers said that the title trophy is the 1st Totielari Kharsati Memorial trophy.  The history in this name is subsequent to the idea of an Off Road motorsports event in this area which was brought in together with the existing crew and Totielari Kharsati, who passed away in 2010 due to a road mishap. Thus the inaugural edition has a personal touch for the organizing crew.
The challenge is a skill based event, with a 1.5 km circuit with obstacles created only for vehicles having 4×4 transmissions.  The basic scores will be adjudged on grounds of drivability, angle of approach to an obstacle, time and preservation of vehicle.
The first edition is a medium category in track variations so as to add safety, adrenaline and challenge for beginners as well as experienced drivers. A professional approach has been taken to assure safety.
Stand by ambulance, fire engines and recovery vehicle will be ready at the event venue. Safety measures include seat belts, helmets, anti roll bars and strict restrictions on drunken driving for all the participants. The event is divided into two categories production and stock. The race will be judged by Eugene Niangti, an individual from the field of Motorsports with due recognition.
