SHILLONG: A three-day Gender Equity Training (GET) of trainers from NYKS youth club leaders was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Meghalaya Zone at the Youth Hostel here, in collaboration with the Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
Youth club leader numbering over 40 and representing NYKS from all the district of Meghalaya are participating in the training programme.
The GET programme was also attended by NYKS, Meghalaya Zone Zonal Director R.P.S. Thakur, District Youth Coordinator Salam D Singh and other officials.
While delivering his keynote address on the occasion, Thakur thrust upon the need for gender equity in sphere of education, political participation, freedom to marry and divorce, access to health care, feminization of poverty, restricted property ownership, feticide, violence, limited mobility, professional obstacles and global gender in balances of power and responsibility, and said that would be possible when equal social, political and economic opportunities were provided to both the male and female sections of the society.
Thakur further informed that during the training, renowned resource person from different agencies like the State Women Commission, Impulse NGO, Gender Consultant and Legal Right Forum will interact and motivate the young participants on subjects like social construction of gender and family, gender and education, gender and work, invisibility of women work, gender and media, gender and human right, gender and violence, gender sensitive legal issues and role of youths in promoting gender equity.
