NONGPOH: Corruption in the State has stooped to its lowest level with innocent children being made victims by certain self-centered individuals in the State.
In the latest case of corruption of the highest order, the school authority of Umjer Ksiar Lower Primary School located at Kyndong Umeit under Umroi Constituency in Ri Bhoi District realized that two sacks of rice supplied to the school contained rotten and inedible rice after they opened the sacks for preparation of lunch for the young school children.
The rice was supplied to the school under the Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme by the wholesaler – Bhalang Society from Bhoirymbong, Ri Bhoi District.
The school, set up in 2007-08 was brought under the SSA programme in 2010-11. The Mid Day meal scheme was introduced in the school only last month.
Informing about the case, L. Kharbuki, Head Teacher of the school, said the school authority and the parents of the children were shocked over the supply of rotten rice to the school.
Kharbuki also informed that the school authority had lodged a complaint with the wholesaler but their complaints had remained unheard, since nobody from Bhalang Society had came to inspect the rice nor taken any initiative to replace the rotten rice till date.
When this scribe approached Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Pooja Pandey and apprised her of the matter, she assured that appropriate action would be taken against the defaulter as per the finding of the Magistrate who has been directed to visit the school and ascertain the details of the case.
