NONGPOH: In a dramatic turn of events, unidentified criminals abducted a rubber plantation businessman from Kerala on Wednesday evening only to release him the next day.
The businessman, Biju Sabastian, was abducted from his plantation area between 6-7 pm and taken to the forest in Panitola, Byrnihat.
According to Superintendent of Police, Ri Bhoi, CVS Reddy, Sabastian was kidnapped by six masked youths.
The SP informed that police swung into editedaction immediately after it got the information of the abduction at around 12 pm on Thursday. SWAT commandos divided into two groups of 15 members each began search operations.
Later, information sneaked in that the victim has been released unharmed at around 4 pm.
It was also learnt that the businessman was not asked to pay any ransom by the miscreants.
Sources claimed that the miscreants released Sabastian buckling under the pressure of the intense search operation launched by the police.
