17 Left parties meet to strengthen unity against “communalism”
Kolkata: The Left parties today held a meeting to strengthen their unity in a bid to counter what they alleged was a “rise of communalism” in the country and in West Bengal. The meeting was held between the 10 constituents of the Left Front in West Bengal, led by the CPI-M, and seven other Left parties SUCI(C), CPI(ML), CPI(ML) liberation, CPI(ML) (Santosh Rana), CRLI, PDS and another Left group. “In the wake of the rise of communalism in the country and the state, we feel there is a need to forge a greater Left unity against communalism of all kinds,” Left Front chairman Biman Bose said. Bose said that in the second week of November the Left parties would hold a convention against the “rise of communalism in the state”. iCPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat Thursday said efforts were on to bring major Left parties and groups together to strengthen Left unity. Two killed, seven injured in firing
Buxar (Bihar): Two persons were killed and seven others injured when unidentified assailants fired upon them at a village in the district, a police officer said Friday. The victims have been identified as Pradeep Kumar Yadav (22) and Niraj Kumar Yadav (14), police said. The incident took place at Jogiya village late last night as the assailants raided a house and fired indiscriminately upon members of two families in which two persons were killed and seven others sustained injuries, Brahmpur police station in-charge Sarvesh Kumar Singh said. The incident was a “fallout” of enmity between rival group of villagers, Singh said. The bodies were handed over to their families for last rites after autopsy. The injured persons taken to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) where the attending doctors referred three of them to Raghunathpur sub-divisional hospital in view of their critical condition, the police officer said. A named FIR has been lodged against 24 people of whom eight have been arrested and charged with the murder of the two villagers, he said. (PTI)
101 officers of Rajasthan police transferred
Jaipur: In a major rejig, Rajasthan government has transferred 101 officers of the state police service. Officers of the ranks of Additional Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police were transferred, according to an order issued Thursday by the Home Department. ASP Jaisalmer Arun Machya will now be ASP Deeg, in Bharatpur district. While ASP Baram Asharam Chaudhary will take charge as ASP Jaipur Municipal Corporation, it said. Among other transfers, ASP Hanumangarh D D Singh has been shifted to Jaipur Crime Investigation Department (CID) on the same post, it added. (PTI)
39 live cartridges found in Hooghly village
Hooghly: Thirty-nine live cartridges were today found strewn under a bridge at a village in Jangipara of Hooghly district here, police said. The cartridges were spotted by farmers at Ayodhya village at Jangipara, who were going to their fields in the morning. Upon receiving the information from the cultivators, the police rushed to the spot, said Swapan Singh Thakur, officer in-charge of Jangipara police station. Investigation is on to find out who dumped the live cartridges in the village, he said, adding, the bomb squad has been informed. (PTI)
