SHILLONG: The District and Session Court, Shillong, has rejected the anticipatory bail of the two sons of tainted CMJ University chancellor, CM Jha.

The court rejected the bail plea of Govind Jha and Gopal Jha after Additional SP (CID) S. Thamar, who is the Investigating Officer (IO) of the CMJ University case, raised strong objection to the anticipatory bail petitions.

Both the petitioners (Govind Jha and Gopal Jha) were supposed to appear before the court for the anticipatory bail hearing, but failed to turn up.

In his submission to the court, the IO stated that detention of the petitioners was very much required since they were the main functional executives of the University and their interrogation would bring to light many of the facts concerning the case.

Thamar also feared that the accused might tamper with the evidences of the case and hamper the investigation by dissuading the witnesses from deposing before the court.

Earlier, the State CID had issued a look out notice against the two sons of the tainted CMJ University chancellor.

A non-bailable warrant had been issued against the two accused by the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate on August 4 last for their alleged involvement in the CMJ University scam.

Former Meghalaya Governor R.S. Mooshahary, his capacity as Visitor of the University, had filed an FIR against the CMJ University and its chancellor for issuing fake degrees certificates to hundreds of student.
