GNLA accuses police of assassination plot against leaders families, warns of retribution

TURA: The top leadership of the GNLA outfit has claimed that Meghalaya police is staging a plot to assassinate the family members of its top leaders including Sohan D Shira by using surrendered cadres and warned that such a move would trigger a massive retribution from its side.

GNLA deputy commander-in-chief Toding Ch Marak released a hard hitting statement that the outfit has uncovered a plot by Meghalaya police to undertake ‘secret killings’ of family members of the leaders.

“Based on our intelligence, we received specific inputs that Mingran T Sangma along with other surrendered cadres and with the help of Meghalaya police in the guise of militants are planning to assassinate our families including our C-and-C Sohan D Shira’s family. If they draw first blood then we won’t hesitate to retaliate in equal measure and we will not take responsibility for it,” stated the GNLA leader.

The armed group has claimed that the state police is using the services of its former arms trainer Mingran T Sangma for this alleged operation.

Warning police and the government against dragging innocent family members into the issue, the GNLA leader said, “Our families have got nothing to do and neither involved in what we are doing. They did not motivate nor encouraged us to take up arms and fight.”

The banned armed organization has termed the alleged plan by police as a “clear-cut strategy to create misunderstanding and confusion with fellow rebels.”

Threatening to take the fight to the doorsteps of police and the government, the GNLA issued a chilling warning and said, “we are not the only one with families. Meghalaya police and surrenderees have got families too. Our surveillance team is already keeping an eye on them and their families. We have lists, addresses of all their relatives and family members too but waiting for them to make the first move.”

“Meghalaya police and the chief minister are really frustrated with their inefficiency in tackling us and now want to kill our families,” claimed Toding Marak of the GNLA in the statement.
