SHILLONG: Concerned over the sorry state of affairs of the State-owned Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL), the Assembly Committee on Public Undertakings met the officers of Commerce and Industries Department on Tuesday to speed up the upgradation process of the plant.

Production of cement was stopped three months ago due to shortage of coal, and moreover, the process of upgradation of the plant is yet to meet its deadline. MCCL employees have also not got salary for three months.

Chairman of the Committee and senior legislator S.C. Marak said on Tuesday that though the new plant should have been operational in 2007 there was delay in completion. Earlier, the deadline was September this year, but the new date for completion is January next year.
