Separation of Judiciary & Executive in 5 districts
SHILLONG: The State Government will go for phase-wise separation of the Judiciary from the Executive due to the financial constraints and difficulties in building up infrastructure facilities once the separation is carried out.
The separation of the Judiciary from the Executive is yet to be effected in five districts – East Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, South West Garo Hills, North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.
An official source on Friday revealed that financial implications were posing obstacles in immediate separation of the Judiciary from the Executive in these five districts.
The official also informed that the State Law department has already conveyed the financial implication of the separation process to the High Court of Meghalaya after the Court asked the Government to speed up the process.
Separation of the Judiciary from the Executive has been carried out in East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills,
West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, East Garo Hills and West Garo Hills districts.
The separation was also carried out in four civil sub-divisions – Sohra, Dadenggre, Amlarem and Mairang.
While separation of the Judiciary from the Executive in each district involves and expenditure of over Rs.1 crore, additional expenditure in terms of infrastructure facilities will cost over Rs.150 crore, the official informed.
