FIR against MUDA official for unauthorized construction permission

SHILLONG: Reacting to an FIR which was filed against a MUDA official over construction of the retaining wall of her residence at Upper New Colony, Nongshken MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri (Independent) on Sunday claimed that she had constructed the retaining wall only after obtaining necessary permission and approval from MUDA.

“We had submitted the details including the plan to MUDA while applying for the permission. The permission was given by MUDA to construct the retaining wall since we had complied with all the necessary procedures,” Kharpuri said while denying any violation of safety norms in the construction of the retaining wall.

“I am surprised that the person Stanleson Kurbah (neighbour) had filed the FIR since he had committed to me and my husband (former MLA Don Massar) that he did not have any problem with the construction of the wall,” Kharpuri said.

It may be informed that Kurbah had filed the FIR against a MUDA official for allegedly issuing the safety certificate for construction of the retaining wall around Kharpuri’s house without the suggestion of the Town Planning Officer, MUDA.

In the FIR, Kurbah had also alleged MUDA Executive Engineer Banriphilang Lyngdoh had issued the safety certificate on May 13, 2011, in contravention of the plan drawing submitted to MUDA.
