Minor student dies in truck accident, students go on rampage

Sasaram (Bihar):A high school student was on Wednesday runover and killed by a truck near the Post Office Chowk here, police said. Manish Kumar (16), a resident of Bharatiganj locality here, was on his way to his tuition classes in the morning when a speeding truck laden with stone-chips hit his bicycle killing him on the spot, they said. Some students, who witnessed the event, went on a rampage by blocking the road and the train routes of Sasaram town, the headquarters of the Rohtas district. Several people, including four policemen, were injured in brick-batting, the police said. Students also pelted stones on the vehicles passing by, and set ablaze two trucks. They later blockaded the Grand Trunk Road (National Highway 2), the police said. The students pelted stones damaging window panes of the coaches, Sasaram Sub-divisional Police Officer Alakh Niranjan Chaudhary said. “Additional forces have been requisitioned. A few people, including four policemen, have been injured in the brick-batting. We are chasing away the rampaging students. The situation is under control now,” the SDPO said. Meanwhile, students from other educational institutions also joined the protest. Fearing escalation of violence, shutters of few shops were shut down.  (PTI)

Body    of police constable found with injury marks on head

Mathura:A 45-Year-old police constable was on Wednesday allegedly murdered under mysterious circumstances and his body, with injury marks on head, was recovered from a drain here, police said. Satish Yadav, who was posted at Kotban outpost on observation duty, went out for a walk today morning. His body was later found in Industrial Area of Kotban, they said. “He died under mysterious circumstances as he was supposed to be on duty by 6.O0 am, however his dead body was found about 1.5 kilometer from police outpost,” DIG Laxmi Singh said. The police reached the spot after locals informed them about a body, which had injuries on the head, laying in the Industrial Area. “He was hit on his head by some iron object. It is difficult to predict the motive so early”, SSP Manjil Saini said. He was a resident of village Tikari falling under Nagla Sihi police station of Ferozabad district. A probe has been initiated to ascertain the cause of his death. Meanwhile, the Forensic team has collected the samples, and his body has been sent for post mortem, police added. (PTI)

4 cops among 20 injured in group clash

Hyderabad:Twenty people, including four policemen, were on Wednesday injured when two groups of different communities clashed at a village in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district even as the police fired in air to disperse the mob. Tension prevailed in Kishtapadu village of Peddavadgur mandal in Anantapur this morning after members of two different communities attacked each other with stones and sticks following a row over “not allowing a religious procession” two days back, police said. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the village following the incident. Four policemen were among 20 people injured as both the groups pelted each other with stones. Window-panes of two police vehicles were also damaged in the attack, they said. The situation is now under control. Additional security force has been rushed to the spot, a senior police officer said. Police initially resorted to lathi-charge and later fired 10 rounds in the air to disperse the clashing groups, Anantapur District Superintendent of Police Rajsekhar Babu told PTI over phone. (PTI)

Trainer among three killed in road accident

Jodhpur:A fitness trainer of international repute, Harish Gurjar, died in a road accident here along with his son and driver when his car collided head-on with another vehicle near Dechu. 42-year-old Gurjar’s son Kanishka (10) and the driver of his car, Sunil Rao (35), also died in the accident that occurred last evening, 100 km from Jodhpur on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer highway. His wife, mother and daughter were injured in the accident and were stated to be out of danger, police said on Wednesday. 42-year-old Gurjar, who is based in Canada, was on his way to pay obeisance at the shrine of local deity Baba Ramdeo in Jaisalmer district with his family. According to Parbat Singh Bhati, SHO (Dechu), their car collided head-on with a speeding car coming from opposite direction. “His son Kanishka died while he was being taken to a hospital in Jodhpur whereas Gurjar and Rao succumbed to their injuries in the hospital,” said Bhati. Harish had trained who’s who from different fields including tech csar Bill Gates and actor Daniel Craig. According to eye witnesses, the collision was so intense that both the vehicles got badly entangled. Villagers took the injured to a nearby health center.(PTI)
