Agartala wins Clean and Green City award
Agartala:The Agartala Municipal Corporation won the ‘Clean and Green City’ award this year for waste material management and keeping the city green. “We have been given this award by the Skoch Foundation, a New Delhi based Urban Policy and Development Expert Group for waste material management and keeping the city green this year,” Corporation Mayor Prafullajit Sinha said on Sunday. “The Corporation runs six zonal development committees to oversee the cleaning process as 250 tonnes of waste materials are being produced daily in the city having more than one lakh houses which pay taxes,” he said. “600 regular cleaners and 30,000 daily rated workers are engaged to keep the city clean everyday,” he said. The Corporation received the ‘Nagar Ratna Award’ by the President in 2009. (PTI)
Arunachal Police nab two extortionists
Itanagar:Arunachal Pradesh police on Sunday added one more feather in its coveted cap by arresting two more extortionists from Chimpu area on Sunday. According to ASP, D Mishra said, acting on a complaint registered in the Itanagar police station by the executive engineer, CWC, Chimpu on November 5, that some criminals approached to him and started threatening and demanded Rs. 3 lakh as ransom from him. Thereafter, the engineer was receiving continuous threat calls from the culprits for the want of ransom. After receiving the complaints, D Mishra, in-charge SP Capital deputed 4 constables to ambush in the CWC Complex. The police team under the supervision of OC, Itanagar, T Wage, continuously remained ambushed since November 5 and they finally succeeded to apprehend two extortionists, Achi Tallo (23) and Arun Tayung (22) on Sunday. The extortionists were came to CWC Complex to receive the ransom. Both of them accused were from Seppa, the ASP informed.(UNI)
Aruanchal never had any trade relation with China: Minister
Itanagar:Arunachal Pradesh had traditional trade relations with Tibetans and not with Chinese, Tourism, UD, Art & Culture Minister of the state Pema Khandu said here on Sunday. Mr Pema’s statement was made when a core group for Tibetan cause led by its National Convener Dr N K Trikha called on the Minister in Tawang. Expressing solidarity and support to the members of the Core group, the Minister termed the cause of the group a righteous one in greater interest of secured and peaceful future of the people of AP and wished the group success in its endeavoer. Earlier, group leader, Dr Trikha briefed Pema that the group of Tibetan cause is a worldwide group having its base in 39 countries across the globe.The team of nine members of the group from India hailed from different parts of the country including the secretary for International Relation of Central Tibetan Administration, Sonam Norbu Dagpo and convener of the NE, R K Khrimey are in Tawang for generating awareness among the local populace of the state about the international issue of Tibet.(UNI)
