58 GTC Archers win Gorkha Brigade Archery Championship
SHILLONG: 58 GTC Archers proved their mettle once again by winning the 8th Gorkha Brigade Archery Championship 2014 wherein the 52 finest archers of national & international fame displayed their archery skills over duration of four days. 58 GTC bagged seven Gold, five Silver and five Bronze medals. The prestigious championship was organized by 58 GTC wherein events were conducted in all the three forms of Archery-Indian Round, Recurve Bow Division & Compound Bow Division. The Archers of National & International forms included Havildar A Biswa, Havildar G B Kunwar, Havildar R Thapa, Havildar Raju KC, Havildar P Gurung, Rifleman M Tamang, Rifleman S Thapa, Rifleman R Budhathoki, Rifleman S Paldin Lepcha were amongst the participating archers.
Shillong Sports to celebrate centenary year in 2016
SHILLONG: The Council of the Shillong Sports Association which was held on 7th November 2014 after having gone through the records that 1916 was the year when the Shillong Sports Association was established. It has therefore taken a decision to celebrate the centenary Year of the Association in 2016. The council has also constituted various committees and sub-committees to start preparing the various programmes and activities for the yearlong celebration. These Committees were given a month’s time to come up with their proposal of activities for consideration by the council before they are put into action beginning of 2015.
23rd State karate concludes
SHILLONG: The 23rd State Karate championship organized by the All Meghalaya karate-Do Association, Shillong has concluded on November 8 which was held at Indoor sports hall, Polo, Shillong. The winners were K.C Karate club (Men category) and All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (Women category). The best karateka were bagged by Rahul Kumar Yadav (Men junior), Dameshwa Rani (Men senior), Isadora A Lyngdoh (Women junior) and Banylla Shallam (Women senior).
Czechs lead Germany in Fed Cup
PRAGUE: Petra Kvitova and Lucie Safarova gave the Czech Republic a 2-0 lead over Germany in the Fed Cup final in Prague on Saturday after winning their opening rubbers in straight sets. Kvitova, the Czech number one player and world number four, overcame Germany’s number two Andrea Petkovic 6-2, 6-4 in an hour and 17 minutes. Safarova then needed an hour and 28 minutes to beat Germany’s Angelique Kerber 6-4, 6-4. The Czechs, who won the trophy in 2011 and 2012, are within a point of making it three in four years. Germany last won the Fed Cup in 1992. (AFP)
