Street prog

As part of the Children’s Day celebration, SPARK – Bringing Light to Lives, a voluntary organization working with the slum children in Shillong, in collaboration with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Meghalaya, is holding a street programme for children at Them Iew Mawlong, behind Jhalupara Police Station, on Nov 13 at 2pm. The programme has been voluntarily sponsored by ‘Cacti 360°’ and voluntary donors of the city.

Lok Adalat

The National Legal Services Authority has fixed Dec 6 for holding of the 2nd National Lok Adalat. In this connection, the District Council Court and its subordinate have been directed to organize the same at Jowai for all relevant cases under its jurisdiction.

Museum closed

Don Bosco Museum would remain closed on November 17 for staff exposure programme.

Cooperative week

Office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Shillong, along with the state cooperative federations will celebrate the 61st All India Cooperative Week from November 14-20. The inaugural ceremony will be held on November 14 at U Soso Tham Auditorium at 10am.

SIP organised

The office of the Sub-Divisional Public Relations Officer, Sohra, organized a one-day Special Interactive Programme on the theme “Knowledge Is Power” on Tuesday at Saitsohpen, Sohra. The programme was an innovative grassroots awareness campaign involving direct interaction between the community and department officials.

Medical camp

Lions Club of Shillong conducted a medical and health camp at MUDA Complex, Nongpoh, on November 10, in collaboration with DMHO, Nongpoh, NEIGRIHMS and doctors from Bansara Eye Care Centre for free eye checkup, diabetes detection, ENT and general checkup and patients were provided with free medicines. 352 patients turned up for the health checkup out of whom 21 people were detected with refractive errors and another seven cases of high diabetes were referred to the hospital.

The Department of Social Work, Martin Luther Christian University, Jowai Campus, on Tuesday organized a free eye care camp in Umsalang Village, West Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with Bansara Eye Care and NSS Unit of the University. The main diagnosis made were Cataract, Vitamin A deficiency and Refractive error. Free medicines were also distributed to the patients.

Office bearers

The North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Union elected new office bearers for the term 2013-14 with Auspicious L. Mawphlang as the new president, Pynkmenlang Sanmiet as vice-president, Jonah J. Kharir as general secretary and Mantre Passah as editor, besides other members. The new president took charge on November 11 in the presence of Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. P. Shukla.
