BJP urges Centre to review power projects in Arunachal
Itanagar: BJP has alleged irregularities in the MoUs signed by the Arunachal Pradesh government with various hydro power developers and urged the Centre to review them. In a letter to Union Minister of State for Energy Piyush Goyal, state BJP Vice-president Sotai Kri urged him to review the MoUs signed by the state government to build dams and other hydro power projects across the state. Drawing attention of the minister to the “unsuccessful” mini-hydel projects, Kri in his letter claimed that due to embezzlement and irregularities 75 per cent of the mini hydel projects had failed to materialize. Demanding a CBI probe into the matter, he said the project opposite to the Parshuram Kund was a threat to the holy site. He requested the minister to review the project so that it could be shifted at least 5 km away from the present location. (PTI)
National Press day observed in Manipur
Imphal: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Sunday presented State Journalist Awards as part of National Press day observation at Manipur Press Club. Mr Ibobi said his government has envisaged programmes and policies to ensure growth of press in the state. Vacant posts related to the media will also be filled up as early as possible he assured. The Best Editor award was conferred to Ashiho Hungyo, Editor Aza a bilingual daily in English and Tangkhul languages. Seven other awards were also conferred to seven journalists for their contributions in rural reporting, women and children, sports, hygiene, art and culture, science and public health. The day has been observed as national press day since 1977 in the state according to an official of Directorate of Information and Public Relations.(UNI)
Nagaland observing Bal Swachhta Mission
Kohima:The six-day Bal Swachhta mission is being observed from Friday last to November to 19 next, by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, conducting free comprehensive health check-ups of school and demonstration in various Government and Government aided Schools in all 11 districts. According to an official release on Sunday, during the campaign, all district mobile health teams under Rastriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), School health programme of the National Health Mission (NHM) have visiting the respective Schools under their respective districts to carry out the activities. At present, the Department is using 22 mobile health teams for Schools, two teams per district, consisting of one medical officer and one Nurse for each health team. (UNI)
Woman from Assam gang-raped in Delhi
New Delhi: A 30-year-old woman from Assam was allegedly assaulted and gang-raped by four of her neighbours in west Delhi’s Mundka area, police said on Sunday. All the four accused have been arrested and sent to Tihar jail, police said. The woman has been living alone in the area since her husband passed away. According to a complaint, the four neighbours had been harassing her for sometime. On November 8, they barged into her house, thrashed her and raped her. “Hearing commotion in the house, someone made a PCR call following which a police team rushed to the spot and arrested the accused,” a police officer said. “The woman was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital from where she was referred to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. She has recently been discharged from the hospital. Currently, she is being counselled,” the officer said. A case of gang-rape, house trespass and other relevant sections has been registered and further investigations are underway, the officer added. (PTI)
