Congress polls

The nomination process for election to the Meghalaya State Youth Congress Assembly/ Parliament/ State will start from November 18. Scrutiny & symbol allocation will be done on November 19 from 9am 5pm. All candidates have to approach the Lok Sabha Returning Officers at Shillong PCC Office and Tura DCC Office.

Farmers’ prog

The District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, Shillong, will organize a farmers’ interactive programme cum exhibition on November 20 at the State Central Library at 10am.

Celebration

Tikrikilla College also celebrated the 139th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel on October 31 as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas at its campus with occasional sobriety and grandeur.

Renewal

The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Jaintia Hills District, has informed that the last date for renewal of licenses of FPS dealers is December 31. FPS dealers have to submit their application along with the court fee stamp of Rs.25, two passport size photos and recommendation of the Dorbar Shnong on or before December 14.

Street play

The Sawa ki Sur Loomiongkjam, Jowai, on Monday enacted a street play on the importance of Right to Information at Iawmusiang, Jowai. The aim of the play was to enlighten the masses about the RTI Act and the right to get information.

Children’s day

The Office of the District Child Protection Unit, Jowai, celebrated Children’s Day on Monday at Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Mihngi Children’s Home, Wahiajer, West Jaintia Hills. Various activities like drawing competition, marble race and musical chair were organized. D.P. Kharsati, ADM, West Jaintia Hills, gave away the prizes to the winners of the competitions. Students of Martin Luther Christian University, Jowai, also took part in the celebrations.

Relief

The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, has informed that an amount of Rs.45,000 has been released to the affected victims whose crops had been damage due to landslide on Sept 26, 2014 at Borgat village in East Jaintia Hills District. Another amount of Rs.32,800 has been released to the affected victims whose house had been damage due to landslides and hailstorms on May 8, August 13 and August 19 at Kulaing and Dona Umbluh villages of East Jaintia Hills District.

Elocution contest

An Inter-School Elocution competition was organized by the Pine Mount Alumni Association, Assam Chapter, in Guwahati recently. Students from several schools of Guwahati participated in the competition. Maria’s Public School, Guwahati, grabbed the running trophy for the second time. The trophy is sponsored by Padmashree Jugal Kishore Choudhury Memorial Trust.
