KJP Assembly AWT Girl’s Home bags national award

SHILLONG: It was a prestigious moment for the KJP Assembly AWT Girl’s Home when it was presented with an award by President, Pranab Mukherjee, on November 14 under the category National Award for Child Welfare – 2013.

The award, accepted by Rev. N.S. Phawa, Senior Administrative Secretary, KJP Assembly, consists of a citation and a monetary prize amounting to Rs.3 lakh.

The KJP Assembly has been involved not only in ministerial and missionary work but it also harbours a department of social and human resources development spearheaded by Reverend Phawa. The department has been fervently involved in promoting social betterment to the population of the region and also provides medical aid and advices to patients through various hospitals in Shillong and Jowai.

The Department also works in tandem with the New Hope Centre in Shillong which provides counselling to those who are struggling with alcohol and drug addictions, regardless of their gender, caste or religion etc. It also conducts programmes in schools and colleges about AIDS/ HIV awareness and prevention.

The department also runs two orphanages – William Lewis Boy’s Home at Mawphlang and the AWT Girl’s Home at Jaiaw, Shillong.
