State Cabinet okays hike in Excise slab on IMFL

NGT ban has affected sale of liquor: CM

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to revise the Excise slab on Indian Manufactured Foreign Liquor (IMFL).

“We have revised the Excise slab to mobilize additional revenue for the State to the tune of nearly Rs.20 crore,” Chief Minister Mukul Sangma informed after a Cabinet meeting here on Tuesday.

The State Government would immediately get additional revenue to the tunes of Rs.15 crore from Excise duty and Rs.4.50 crore from VAT on liquor per annum, he added.

According to the Chief Minister, a proposal was submitted to the Cabinet for increasing the price of IMFL by Rs.150 per case.

Excise Minister Zenith M. Sangma informed that the cost price of the general brand has been increased from Rs.386 and Rs.734 per case to Rs.536 and Rs.884 per case, respectively.

The cost price of the deluxe brand has been increase from Rs.736 an Rs.1235 per case to Rs.885 and Rs.1385, respectively.

He also informed that the cost price of the premium brand has been increase from Rs.1236 and Rs.3100 per case to Rs.1386 and Rs.3250, while the cost price of the super premium brand has been increased from Rs.3101 to Rs.3251 per case.

Interestingly, the Chief Minister siad that sale of liquor in the State has gone down following the NGT ban on coal mining.
