Police identify GNLA cadres involved in threat message

SHILLONG: Two GNLA cadres who were lodge in Tura District jail have been brought to Shillong for threatening to one of the police officers of East Khasi Hills District and his family.

East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang on Monday said that on October 13, Salgro Areng on behalf of GNLA, created a group/page on Facebook – ‘Meg Pol V/s public’, where he threatened  to kill one of the police officers of East Khasi Hills District and his family as the officer was involved in operational duties.

They also claimed that they know the details of his residential address.

According to Kharkrang, a suo moto case was taken up by the District Police and during investigation it was ascertained that the threat was uploaded from Tura District Jail.

“A search warrant was received from District  Court  Shillong and early morning, a police team from Shillong along with Tura Police conducted a search  of the Tura District Jail,” he said.

However, during the search, nothing was found but it was learnt from the Jail authority that three days back, a search was conducted by them and they recovered five mobile sets.

On verifying, it was found that one of the mobile was actually used for sending the threat message through Facebook.

The persons sending the messages were Solly Ch. Sangma (31) and Johny A. Marak (21) and both are GNLA cadres lodged in Tura District Jail.

They have been brought to Shillong for further interrogation.
