CDSI launches cancer control programme in Arunachal

Itanagar: With cancer causing global concern for its rising mortality rate and Arunachal Pradesh is no exception to this pheno-menon, Cancer Detection Society of India (CDSI) has decided to launch a compre-hensive cancer control programme in the state.
CDSI president Dr Suraj Verma, who arrived here at the invitation of the director of health services, informed today that regular cancer check-up during a week-long camp along with awareness campaign will be organised at Arunachal State Hospital here during December 7-12 next.
The camp aims at early detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer cases, Dr Verma said, adding the ASH team would be assisting in the camp.
Audio visual talks on brining mass awareness about the causes of cancer, its prevention and treatment would be part of the campaign, which will be conducted at Ziro during Dec 14-19.
The ASH has an oncology department where 400 to 500 cancer patients are getting treatment annually.
The Delhi-based CDSI, chaired by Dr S H Advani, former chief oncologist of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, has conducted such campaign in seven North East states, Dr Verma added. (UNI)
