PC tablets distributed in SW Garo Hills

AMPATI: In continuation of the Chief Minister’s Digital Learning Aid which was launched in December, 2012, PC tablets were distributed to over 800 class XII students of 11 higher secondary schools of South West Garo Hills at Ampati Multi-Facility Centre,here on Monday.

The PC tablets were distributed by the chief guest and Chairperson, Meghalaya State Resource Mobilization & Employment Generation Council, Dikkanchi D. Shira along with South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, H.D.B. Sangma and senior citizen of Ampati, Benoy Bhushan Marak at a function attended by a large number of students, teachers and the district oficials.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Shira said that the State Government was carrying forward this scheme with a focus on improving the education scenario of State and empowering the students to be competitive in today’s globalized world.

Shira said that today’s generation is about accessibility and one of the steps taken by the government is to make the students digitally aware through education and skill development programmes and urged upon the students to make best use of these gadgets and show that they are at par with the rest of the world.

She also informed the gathering that the State Government in effort to improve the quality of teaching, is extending a financial support of Rs. 5000 per month to those who want to take up teaching as a profession and that this scheme would be made available in all the blocks of the State.

The Wi-Fi enabled PC tablets or m-tabs are pre-loaded with educational contents covering the MBOSE syllabi as well as study materials and sample question papers for Engineering and Medical entrance exams.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, in his welcome address said that the scheme was a great opportunity for the students to empower themselves technologically and congratulated all the students on the occasion.

Others who also spoke on the occasion included the Addl Deputy Commissioner, Ampati, H.D. B. Sangma and Extra Assistant Commissioner, D. A. Sangma, who chaired the function.
